CARTOON CAPTION CONTEST CONTINUES! The pre-captioned cartoon for the new contest, Contest #27, looks like a close cousin to the cartoon for Contest #22. Go to it!

To my surprise, the winner of Contest #23 (Robert Leighton’s pair of butterflies, one with Mondrian wings) is “But how will we raise the kids?” Congrats to Steve Hoff of Lake Bluff, Illinois!

Of the nominees for Contest #25 (man wearing an old deep-sea diving suit at a social function), I’m leaning toward “Bob just came directly from work.” That was submitted by Mario Hieb of Salt Lake City, Utah. Somehow my own effort failed to make the cut. It was "Don't mind Tom. He's always out of his element at parties." What was your loser?

In related news, Dan Radosh launched a New Yorker Cartoon Anti-Caption Contest, soliciting the worst possible captions for each contest starting with the ongoing Contest #26 (classical musicians disrupted by monster truck). The winner, chosen from dozens of posted submissions, is Pareene’s "There is a man pinned under this truck who requires immediate medical assistance. Someone please call for an ambulance. Please, before it's too late."

Besides offering amusement, Dan’s contest has another thing going for it: It offers insight into the selection process.
