2005 PHOTOS. Time has picked its Best Photos of the Year 2005. Not surprisingly, they're overwhelmingly downbeat. Mother Nature dominates, but that doesn't guarantee that She will get Whatever of the Year 2005. I'm partial to Todd Heisler's Heading Home (#18) and James Nachtwey's His Sacrifice (#19).

Life is holding a vote for the most stunning photo of 2005. So far the frontrunner is George Bush observing Katrina damage from Air Force One.
