LOSER'S LOUNGE ROX ENO! It took some coaxing to get me to attend The Loser's Lounge tribute to Roxy Music and the music of Brian Eno at Joe's Pub last night, but I'm super glad I went! It was an outstanding night for The Kustard Kings (the Loser's Lounge band), who propelled the music forward to ecstatic levels in the concluding numbers. Kudos to the organizers for putting it all together and special kudos to the rhythm section (anchored by real-life Roxy bassist Sal Maida) for the bouncing beats. There are two more performances tonight, at 7 and 9 pm.

As for Joe's Pub as the new Loser's venue, you're probably best off reserving a table if you can swing it. Otherwise, get there about one hour early (and stand out in the cold) if you want to have a "seat" (which might turn out to be a raised floor with or without a butt cushion) rather than a standing position by the bar. Beware that the drink charges seem to be more than they were at Fez, which could make the alternative $12 food minimum more appealing to folks on a budget.

As for the pix below...well, they're not really blurry — they're psychedelic! Benjie will be gladdened to know that there was indeed a sax player: Mike McGinnis, second photo all the way to the right. And that's Maida behind him.
