TRANSIT STRIKE: CHESS ART. In the words of Artforum's Nick Stillman, there is a "current minitrend of artists creating chess sets."

On Day Two of the transit strike, we wonder if we'll manage to see Glenn Kaino's Learn to win, or you'll take losing for granted at Projectile Gallery (34 West 57th Street, Third Floor, closing December 22) and The Art of Chess at Luhring Augustine (531 West 24th Street, closing December 23).

Continuing until March 5 at The Noguchi Museum is The Imagery of Chess Revisited, for which the Astoria museum "recreates and expands the groundbreaking 1944 exhibition organized by Marcel Duchamp and Max Ernst at the Julien Levy Gallery. In addition to Isamu Noguchi, the exhibition features original designs by artists such as Man Ray, Arshile Gorky and Yves Tanguy."

Over here, we've repeatedly linked to Yoko Ono's 1999 Play It By Trust, on permanent loan at Long Island's Longhouse Reserve.
