TRANSIT STRIKE: TELECOMMUTING. It seems that a major difference between today's transit strike and the 1980 strike is that today more of us don't really need to go to work in order to work. We can telecommute!

Telecommuting is a wonderful thing. Those of us who are able to telecommute can take full advantage of the benefits of modern technology. We use all manner of nifty gizmos to stay in constant contact with our colleagues and keep the treadmills of capitalism thrumming with running dog glee. We keep ourselves apprised of developments using computers, telephones, and television. We stuff our faces with junk food. We get more of those holiday cards written. Yeah, that's the ticket. Right after we write another blog entry and watch some DVDs!

Back in 2001, Stax offered this list of "labor movies." And here's a poorly arranged list of Great Labor Movies to See ("well-suited to watching as a group to stimulate political discussions") from, of all places, the International Labor Communications Association.

Then there are the many transit-related movies. Naturally, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is a top choice. A personal favorite is the Bill Murray vehicle Quick Change. And perhaps you've noticed that The Warriors has been getting a lot of attention lately. Anyway, here are lists with overlapping choices:

Of course, there's always something else a telecommuter can do.
