WELCOME TO THE READING ROOM.
THE 10 WORST SPINS OF 2005! Michael Brown...Bill O'Reilly...Fox News PR...Hillary Clinton..they're all here! Strangely enough, there's no mention of the phrase "blame game." Thanks to Romanesko for the lead.

THE BEST FILMS OF 2005! The Village Voice offers the results of its film critics' poll. How many of the Top 10 did you see? How many of the Top 10 did anyone see? This year's best movie list is next year's video list.

SCAT, CATS! Scanning the list of long-running shows at Playbill.com, you can see that Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera is about to overtake Cats as the top of the Broadway list. Still haven't seen it myself.

VIZZINI ON GETTING A DAY JOB! Stuyvesant alumnus Ned Vizzini is the author of the well-received Be More Chill and Teen Angst? Naaah . . . A Quasi-autobiography as well as the forthcoming novel It's Kind of a Funny Story. He's got a piece about applying to be a bicycle messenger in this week's New York Press.

Those are some doozies. One that I think we'll hear a lot of in 2006 is the term "We're making progress." coming from the usual suspects in DC. Of course, it won't be attached to anything specific and measurable, making it a bunch of spin.

I saw 7 of the Top 20, which seems a tad low, considering that I watched a lot of good movies. My sub-list, then:

A History of Violence
The Squid & the Whale
Bareback Mountain
Capote
Mysterious Skin^
My Summer of Love^
Land of the Dead

^ - on DVD
