WHAT A LONG, STRANGE TRIP IT'S BEEN. Gawker reports that Felber Frolics reports that Page Six reports that the venerable bar Ye Olde Tripple Inn will become extinct this weekend.
The reports talk about The Trip as a comedy haven, and also namedrop Liza, Freddie Prinze, The Beatles, Larry David, Rita Rudner, and Lewis Black. As for me, I didn't go there often but I liked the interior and the exterior, the darts, the neighborhood atmosphere (I dimly recall that there were checkered tablecloths), and the talent nights that I used to attend there once in a while.
So tonight you can still drink at The Trip. And tomorrow a select group will presumably polish off whatever booze remains. And on Monday there will be an auction of whatever furnishings and fixtures remain. And then the joint will be knocked down and replaced by some new building with much less personality.
Memories of Ye Olde Tripple Inn can be found (for the time being) at the above Felber Frolics link as well as Last Call, Murph's Guide to NY Bars, and Shtick!
