THE GRAMPYS. Les Paul, who won Grammys last night for best pop instrumental and best rock instrumental, has been in a New Jersey hospital since Friday. The 90-year-old said his Grammy double victory made him feel like “a condemned building with a new flag pole on it.”
Burt Bacharach, who made it to the event, won for best pop instrumental album. His music was on other nominated recordings, too. Despite his award, he's upset over the state of the world. “I've never seen times like we've got right now,” he said with his young children nearby. “This is the future I'm leaving behind for these kids and I'm concerned because I think we've really made a mess of it.” He's especially concerned about President Bush "lying" about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction. “I never like to be lied to by a girlfriend or agent, and certainly not the president of the United States,” he said. No argument here!
