HEDDA KNOWS BEST. Drag queen Hedda Lettuce was funny introducing Hush...Hush Sweet Charlotte at Clearview's Chelsea Cinema last night, but I wondered if it was appropriate for her to riff on St. Patrick's Day being the most homophobic holiday in New York.

Silly me. This morning, we've all been treated to this hateful remark from parade organizer John Dunleavy:
If an Israeli group wants to march in New York, do you allow Neo-Nazis into their parade? If African-Americans are marching in Harlem, do they have to let the Ku Klux Klan into their parade? People have rights. If we let [Irish gay activists] in, is it the Irish Prostitute Association next?
So good for Christine Quinn and Eliot Spitzer as being among those to noticeably absent themselves from Dunleavy's event.

As for the film series at Clearview's Chelsea, Joan Crawford's Berserk and Paul Mazursky's Next Stop, Greenwich Village are lined up for the next two Thursdays. There are plans for a Pedro Almodóvar mini-festival soon.

Unfortunately, homophobia is slowly being institutionalized.

Or is that re-institutionalized?
