Good guess but cold, my good man. Nexxxxxxxt?

At a bike shop? Looks like a close-up of some super hi-tech gear shift thingy.

David Marc Fischer said...

Another good guess...but just as cold, too.

are you in traction? i'm guessing... lenox hill!

David Marc Fischer said...

Thank you for your concern, but I'm not in traction. Lenox Hill? Slightly warmer, perhaps.

Some kind of musical instrument?

Scott said...

you were at the proline archery lanes on woodhaven boulevard and 101 street.

WHY you there, that's your business.

David Marc Fischer said...

No...but under some circumstances it could be mistaken for part of one.

new guess!

you were at the proline archery exhibition at rock center!

David Marc Fischer said...

Um...getting warm (and quite excited, it seems)!

Are you on the Staten Island Ferry?

The ever-entertaining Scottie says
Paragon!

Are you in either a parking garage or auto repair garage?

David said...

You are the design section of MOMA.

David Marc Fischer said...

Cold, cold, cold!

Keep on guessing...but consider this: Instead of trying to nail your target in a single guess, you might find it useful to zero in on it.

David said...

One block south of MOMA. ;-)

Archery Capital, 570 Lexington Ave

Archery, archery, archery! You want archery? You got archery.

A standard archery target has five color fields, each divided into two concentric circles. The one in the middle is yellow. Only one of you has hit the yellow color field so far. Draw on this knowledge and adjust your aim to hit the innermost circle!

So, are you in midtown?

David Marc Fischer said...

Nope!

How about the Downtown Boathouse at Pier 26 in Hudson River Park?

David Marc Fischer said...

Brrrr! Is there an iceberg there, or what? Colder!

Are you in Manhattan?

Anonymous said...

Usdan!

The sporting goods department at Target on Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn.

OK then, are you in Queens?

David Marc Fischer said...

Clever guesses, Debbie (hee hee!) but...yes, Gary, we're talking Queens! It's a big borough, but at least you've narrowed things down to the right one.

David said...

New York Hall of Science.

David Marc Fischer said...

Getting a little warmer!

David said...

Alternatively you might be at Queens Archery in Flushing.

David Marc Fischer said...

Bullseye! Yes, I was at Queens Archery in Flushing, Queens!! Take a bow, David--this sure is a feather in your cap!!!

Scott had seemed to be on the right track with Pro Line...and Gary showed some promise as he finally eliminated Manhattan from consideration...but it's fitting that David zeroed in on the precise location. After all, he was the player who requested pictures of very small things, preferably not in Manhattan! So I hope these things were small enough: two subsections of a compound bow plus fletching (feathers) on arrows.

Queens Archery is one of very few archery ranges in New York City. It's got a shooting range on the left and a shooting range on the right (that looked more like the shooting range on the left when I was there), plus a snack area and a pro shop. For $16 you can shoot for an hour with the range's equipment (and even get one free lesson on your first visit).

My recent visit to Queens Archery was, I think, my third...but it was only the first time I was able to shoot there. (Previously I'd arrived too late.) In the past I had taken the subway to Flushing and then a bus to get to the range, but this time (on the advice of the city's archery meetup group) I took an LIRR train to Auburndale and then backtracked on foot. It's always good to find a release for my archery jones--I was all a-quiver! So I hope to return sometime soon, most likely at another meetup event. Wanna come with?

Incidentally, this is at least the second WWI to involve archery. Anyone remember the other one?

I believe it was the statue of the hunter in Central Park. But I think we should be fair here and acknowledge that Scott not only guessed archery very early on, but was even in Queens with that Woodhaven Blvd guess.
