In the cartoon caption contest itself, Brendan Hasenstab of Brooklyn just gave New York its fifth win. New York is still in third place in the state competition after California (9) and Pennsylvania (6), but it surely has the most concentrated pack of winners: All five are within New York City.
Hasenstab's entry for Caption Contest #46 (naked man at podium at stockholders meeting) was
"First, I'd like to thank the podium."In Caption Contest #48 (elderly man and girl with violin in disarrayed room), Sherman Ross of Houston, Texas entered the nominated caption
"O.K., this time with a little less feeling."My poor little loser was
"If you practiced more, you could bring down the house."In Anti-Caption Contest #49 (a rabbi, a priest, and a minister walk into a bar), the winner is Harry with
"Do you remember that joke you told me? Yeah, the bar-related one. Does something bad happen to the bartender?"My losers were
"Dullest. Halloween. Ever."Caption Contest #50 is here. Anti-Caption Contest #50 is here.
"Oh, just the usual Sunday night losers…."
"Looks like it's been a tough weekend for the Judeo-Christians."
"Fifty dollars to see my own caption on one of their cartoons? My son can do that for me for nothing. He does it on his computer!"
"Get those trannie hookers over here pronto. It's gonna be a big night--a really big night. And just so there’s no misunderstanding: I'm gonna want more than my usual ten percent!"
It should be noted that the weekly New Yorker contest has been operating for more than one year!

This was a fine entry, but was marred by one detail: the naked man is standing behind a lectern, not a podium. A podium is a little platform that one stands on, not behind. At a symphony concert, the announcer may say, "Maestro ascends the podium."
That's an interesting and thoughtful observation, but I note that Merriam-Webster includes "lectern" as a definition for "podium." I've found the same at other reference sources.
