HEDDA DEAREST! Hedda Lettuce was hysterically funny last Thursday as she led fans on a guided tour of Mommie Dearest, that old feature film about a simple housewife who wants to make her home a model of decorum in a thoroughly unmannered world. Attendees seemed to be familiar with much of the script, shouting out lines with a great deal of enthusiasm.

Hedda doesn't always stay to enhance the soundtracks of Chelsea Classics screenings, but this was a very special night--the fifth anniversary of the series! The screening took place in the duplex between 8th and 9th, where the large crowd could be accommodated, free the multiplex between 7th and 8th for continued renovation. The print of the film could have used that kind of attention--it needed a good scrubbing!

The Mommie Dearest: Hollywood Royalty Edition DVD (with commentary by John Waters) should be available on June 6, 2006. Coincidentally (or perhaps not), that's Omen Day!
