Were you in the Murray Hill - Kips Bay area when you took this photo?

Scott said...

were you outside my ex-therapist's office/home on 30th street between lex and 3rd?

Uh...Scottie? Are you swooping in?

David Marc Fischer said...

No, Debbie and Scott, I wasn't. Sorry.

Okay, let's start at the beginning. Manhattan?

David Marc Fischer said...

Yes, Manhattan!

Anonymous said...

The village?

David Marc Fischer said...

The Village is cooler than your previous guess, Debbie!

Were you North of 42nd St?

David Marc Fischer said...

Yes, I was north of the Deuce!

Anonymous said...

Were you North of 110th St?

David Marc Fischer said...

No...but I can't resist taking a request!

Are you above 59th St? Do I get another song?

David Marc Fischer said...

No, I wasn't above 59th Street. And no, not another song for you right now. Sorry.

David Marc Fischer said...

But stay tuned for Guitarchiks!

WEre you on the East side?

David Marc Fischer said...

Yes, but you're still not getting another song.

What does "the chef" think?

David Marc Fischer said...

Debbie, your guess isn't as warm as Scott's.

Rwanda Sculpture Project?
Thanks Debbie for your curiosity in my guesses!

Is it in the 50s?

David Marc Fischer said...

No, chef! Yes, chef!

Is it west of 3rd ave?

Anonymous said...

Is it north of 55th?

Were you at 57th and Madison? Isn't there a Calder there?

the chef said...

The IBM building cafe?

David said...

Wrong Calder. It's the Seagram Building between 52nd and 53rd street on Park Ave.

David said...

It was a trick. I think it isn't a Calder, now that I've double checked. But we'll let Mr. WWI explain.

David said...

OK, I triple checked and can find a reference to artist being Calder (duh). Meanwhile, I'll stick with my location guess, and appologize for the digression.

David Marc Fischer said...

Yes...no...no...no...yes...er, ah...yes!

I was indeed at the Seagram Building, the celebrated Mies van der Rohe/Philip Johnson edifice at 385 Park Avenue between 52nd Street and 53rd Street. And, despite the fact that Wikipedia currently claims that the work in the plaza is one of Roy Lichtenstein's Brushstroke sculptures, it is actually Alexander Calder's mobile Ordinary (1969). (If memory serves, this is the second Wikipedia error noted thus far in the WWI competition.)

I strongly encourage you to make repeated visits to see Ordinary, which is to grace the Seagram space from June 3, 2006 through June 2, 2007. I'm certainly not alone in my enthusiasm.

So hearty congrats to The Other David--the first contestant to get hot by getting Calder! And thanks to all the participants for making this challenge a lively one!!
