Were you at Tom Otterness's "The Real World" installation in Rockefeller Park?
That isn't what you're seeing here.
Are you enjoying a "Lesson" at the Little Red Schoolhouse at 6th Ave and Houston?
Is this the Otterness that is on Roosevelt Island, I think on the west side of the island along the water?
So far Gary is the warmest....
The Hilton on 42nd St.?
14th street and 8th avenue?
Debbie and Scott: No and No. Sorry!
Are you outside in Manhattan?
No, I wasn't.
Ok, Ok, bad question. Inside in Manhattan?
brooklyn botanical garden?
Nope!
But nice try, Scott!
Is this at the Queens Museum of Art?
No, I'm afraid not!
How about at Hofstra University? Which is warmer?
Bronx Botanical Garden?
Right you are!
In a tribute to togetherness, Debbie with Scott's help has identified my whereabouts as The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx--specifically, the Tom Otterness piece Amorphophallus Titanum, 2005.
Yes, among the many Otterness sculptures sprinkled around the city is a tribute to the infamous big and stinky "corpse flower," a sample of which blossomed last month at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
I happened upon Amorphophallus Titanum outside the Nolen Greenhouses as I was taking in the excellent Dale Chihuly show that is at the Garden through October 29, 2006. I highly recommend making the trip to the Garden to see the glasswork amongst the greenery.
I'm not sure whether I should give Debbie full credit for this one. She can decide how much of the point goes to her and how much to Scott.
Reminds me of that childhood game Cooties, where the first one to put their plastic arachnid together wins!
Yeah, and maybe Day of the Triffids or Invasion of the Body Snatchers or that Star Trek episode with the spores....
