MOVIES FOR CHEAPSKATES: ANDY WARHOL: A DOCUMENTARY FILM. This one is unusually simple: The Film Forum is hosting free screenings of the new Ric Burns documentary about Andy Warhol from Friday, September 1 through Thursday, September 14, 2006. There are screenings of the four-hour film daily at 1 pm and 7pm except on Wednesday, September 6, when there is only a 1 pm screening. There will be a 15-minute intermission at each showing.
Screening details are here; note too that Andy Warhol: A Documentary Film will air later this month on PBS and be available on video. Here's Ed Halter's Village Voice review.
In other news, Warhol's notorious Empire will screen at MOMA for about eight hours starting at 2 pm on Saturday, September 23, 2006. Here's MOMA's description of Empire.
Go here for a lengthy set of outtakes from Ciao! Manhattan with lots of great New York footage from 1967: The Pan Am Building...Central Park...Allen Ginsberg...Edie Sedgwick....
And oh yes: Taylor Mead still performs at the Bowery Poetry Club on Friday nights from 6:30-7:00 pm!
