MEET ADAM WADE. Tuesday I enjoyed a Moth StorySLAM at The Nuyorican Poets Cafe. The host was Dan Kennedy, the theme was "Clean Slate," and the winner was a soft-spoken young man who told a tale about trying to put things in order after the death of a relative deep into gambling, organized crime, and the waste disposal business. The moral of the story? No clean slate when Family is involved!
Got that? Good!
One of the near-winners was not soft-spoken: Adam Wade. He's a real character--and he seems to have quite a following. His name was emblazoned on his shirt. He carried copies of Glamour in which he starred in a photo story called "It's super-chivalrous dude!" He told a story about a humbling New Year's Eve spent in a bar--kissing wrong and overdrinking, with a return home to a kitchen mess--followed by a pledge to take on the New Year fresh.
Here's Wade sharing a different story--the notorious tale known as "The Hoboken Italian Tuna Adventure." Foodies take note: In case you haven't heard, Fiore's House of Quality Deli apparently serves great mozzarella. And Chelsea Peretti loves the Italian tuna sandwich!
I think the opening music might be by Ennio Morricone. More on him later.
