THEME FROM THE 4:30 MOVIE. Somehow I got it into my "brain" that the theme from the old 4:30 Movie was from Casino Royale. Yet last night, when Ginny sang some of the notes, I recognized the tune...and it wasn't from Casino Royale!

And here's Burt Bacharach's theme from (the original) Casino Royale. Does anyone recognize any part of it (especially the descending string line) as the theme for a television movie show?

Remember like once a year they would have "Monster Week" on the 4:30 movie? Godzilla, Rodan, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc.... And that got me thinking about those glow-in-the-dark monster models, of which I had the complete set. And THAT got me thinking of the smell of the toy store where I used to the buy the models, with its warped wooden floors and dusty shelves. Can't remember the name the store, though.
Anyway, thanks.
You're welcome. And now you've got me thinking of the smell of model glue. Couldn't get enough of it myself....
Sis just mentioned that she loved Gidget Week!
David, at least for me, you're burying the lede. That's Herb Alpert doing the title song from Casino Royale and it brings back so many memories of Central Park Road School in Plainview, I can't even tell you. Scott Benoit and I (Scott would later become a famous male model, even appearing in the George Michael "Freedom" video as a prop) would get together at his house every other morning before band practice (back then it was in the a.m., before school) and listen to Herb Alpert records--Whipped Cream, Going Places, etc. The soundtrack to Casino Royale was a fave, especially to a young trumpet player.
The other soundtrack that I stll remember fondly from that era--though the movie is sadly forgotten--is Grand Prix, the great Formula One epic. I find myself humming that one a lot. I tried to get in Amazon but I think it's out of print!
Hi, "Anonymous"--
Yeah, that's Herb Alpert...but perhaps the real real story revolves around the identity of the high note artist who's prominent later in the Casino Royale theme. I tried to figure out whether it might be our friend Maynard Ferguson, but came up with nothing on the 'net.
As for Grand Prix, double-check Amazon. As I believe I mentioned in an email last year, it's on DVD. In more than one version!
Perhaps you can use http://www.midomi.com/ to find it?
Wiki has some notes on the theme music, but nothing definitive.
