PROTEST: CHINA SUBSIDIZES SUDANESE GENOCIDE! I really hate to put a damper on all the Chinese New Year festivities...but, you see, China has been complicit in the Sudanese genocide. So says Nat Hentoff.

This Saturday--March 10, 2007, from 1 to 4 pm--there will be a protest in the form of a human chain linking the Chinese and Sudanese Missions to the United Nations.

Organized by the student anti-genocide coalition STAND, The protest starts at Dag Hammarskjöld Park (across the street from the Sudanese Mission to the U.N. on 47th Street between First and Second Avenue) and then extends to St. Vartan's Park, across the street from the Chinese Mission to the U.N. on 35th Street between First and Second Avenues.

The timeline for the event:
1:00-1:30 pm Rally in front of the Sudanese Mission
1:30-2:30 pm Procession: Participants link arms and proceed to the Chinese Mission to the U.N, creating a human chain between Sudan and China
2:30-4:00 pm Rally in front of the Chinese Mission to protest the government's role in the genocide
The Mission Statement:
Student activists, having been moved and alarmed by China's role in the genocide in Darfur, have committed to publicizing this connection and protesting it. In order to create a physical manifestation of this link, we will be forming a human chain between the Chinese and Sudanese Missions to the UN on Saturday March 10th, 2007. This action depends on the participation of every Darfur activist… the greater the number of links, the stronger the chain.
Here's a video of children's letters to China. Don't bother to click on the link at the end.
