TONY TALK

I had hoped to see two names among this year's crop of Tony nominees: Lauren Pritchard of Spring Awakening and Hugh Dancy of Journey's End.

Pritchard made a huge impression on me with her acting and singing in the supporting role of Ilse, but I realized I was hoping against hope that she would make it to the nominee phase. On the brighter side, I'm happy to note that Pritchard's Tuesday night showcase with Duncan Sheik at Ars Nova is sold out. Good for her!

Regarding Dancy, I am much more surprised that he's out of the running. And I see that I am not alone. Definitely not. Oh well. At least there's still time (and plenty of available seats) to see him and his excellent co-stars in Journey's End before it closes at Tony time. (One way to get a "bargain" ticket is to go to the box office, get the cheapest seats, and see if you can move up. UPDATE: Theatermania is now offering a very good deal: $35 orchestra/front mezzanine tickets.)

Here's Dancy with excerpts from Journey's End.

And here are Sheik and Pritchard performing most of "Touch Me" from Spring Awakening.
