WHERE WAS I? As usual, it's somewhere in the five boroughs. Leave your guesses in the comments section.

Avebue D and 7th Street?

No, Scott, but thanks for taking the plunge and making a clever guess! Keep at it--I think there's a good chance you'll move closer to getting it right....

On a roof?

Lower East Side?

I'm going to try to beat Scottie with specifics: You were at TOAST visiting a gallery on Rivington St. or Stanton?

David Marc Fischer said...

No, no, no. But look on the bright side: You've totally eliminated roofs and the Lower East Side and, importantly, Avebue D and 7th Street!

Near the High Line?

David Marc Fischer said...

Interesting question, Dolph. Depends on what your definition of "Near" is.

Hell's Kitchen?

David Marc Fischer said...

Scott, that depends on what your definition of Hell's Kitchen is. But yours might be the warmest guess so far.

9th Avenue and 42nd Street?

David Marc Fischer said...

You're about half right, Debbie!

Specificity will matter, by the way.

9th Avenue?

Are you at the Chelsea Car Wash under the High Line at 14th Street?

David Marc Fischer said...

Yes, Debbie.

No, Dolph.

it looks like it could be a diner, with the silver panel, and a neon sign, but that's not what the Cheyenne Diner looks like. hmmm.

Cheyenne Diner, Ninth and 33rd?

Westway Diner? Ninth between 43rd and 44th?

Myra almost had it, but unfortunately (for her) and fortunately (for Scott), her phrasing didn't quite cut the cake. So congrats to Scott for getting this one right! (And nice try, Myra.)

I've got a bonus photo, but that (and the standings) might have to wait a little while as I take care of some other stuff. I just didn't want you guys to be clueless for too long. So stay tuned!

In the meantime, here's a page with Cheyenne Diner images.

The first photo is a doorway to the diner's basement, the second is probably the cover for an exhaust vent; both are on 33rd Street.

The third photo is a sidewalk view directly below a vertical neon sign for the diner--you can see the red neon as well as some glass tubing towards the lower frame of the image.

The fourth photo is a chrome panel between the basement entryway and the vent.

The fifth photo offers a different angle on the horizontal neon sign (top right) and the glass tubing (center).

And the sixth image peeks inside the main entrance. You can see a little Cheyennesque skull towards the bottom right corner. Atmosphere, you know.

Not bad on my first try! It's like getting an answer swiped from you on Jeopardy, when it is not in the form of a question! Congrats, scott!

p.s. Moondance Diner may be closing this weekend, or else really soon. Wanna go??

Good description, Myra--and it was a really good effort!
