Sculpture of General Philip Henry Sheridan at Sheridan Square.

it's actually Christopher Park, not Sheridan Square

The 2 parks are right around the corner from each other.

The statue of Sheridan is at the eastern tip of the small triangular Christopher Park, between Christopher St and Grove St, where Waverly St ends.

Wow--two excellent rapid-fire guesses (for WWI?), but only one shall be the winner!

Debbie impressed by recognizing the statue of General Philip Henry Sheridan--obviously they don't all look alike to her, even if Forgotten New York says this one is "so poorly executed one might not know the subject without his name on the plinth"--and almost persuaded me with the confidence of her Sheridan Square guess--Forgotten New York calls it Sheridan Square, too--but then came Myra to clarify the matter, offer the answer that was in my mind (and on the maps), and take the prize!

The location is Christopher Park, which is very close to the Sheridan Square subway station. Also across the street from the Stonewall Inn, Christopher Park is recognized as a historic location by the state and federal governments. In addition to the Sheridan statue, it is home to a Civil War memorial flagpole and George Segal's sculpture Gay Liberation, details of which can be seen in the bonus photos.
