Every now and then I'm so proud of one of my losing captions that I use this space to shine a spotlight on it. For instance, consider Caption Contest 106 (lab guy with monkey at typewriter). The nominees:
"Have you considered writing this story in the third monkey rather than the first monkey?"And, well, here's mine.
Robert Gray (Manchester Center, VT)
"We'll have to run it by our infinite number of editors."
Douglas L. Saunders (Oakland, CA)
"Sorry, guys. It's another rejection letter."
Sondra Frisch (Del Mar, CA)
"'Ods bodkins'? Gibberish."Get it?
In Caption Contest 104 (cops cruising by drinking and loitering angels), the winner is
"Except here it's always good cop, good cop."Those eight words create a formidable seven-point spread between second-place New York and third-place New Jersey while New York moves within two points of California.
Gary Rawitz (New York, NY)
In Anti-Caption Contest 107 (man with beer talks to dog while woman lectures cat in house seemingly missing walls), the winner is
"What, did you graduate? Get the fuck back over there."My loser:
Bouf la Tete
"This house needs walls."
Caption Contest 108 is here. Anti-Caption Contest 108 is here.
