WHERE WAS I? As usual, it's in New York City. Anyone can play—just leave your guesses in the comments section using a distinct moniker (not Anonymous). Enjoy! Please!

A close-up of one of Martin Puryear's pieces at the MoMA?

David Marc Fischer said...

Nice try, Debbie, but no!

The Rose Center for Earth & Science, Hayden Planetarium?

David Marc Fischer said...

Cooler, Ellen!

Irish Hunger Memorial at the corner of Vesey Street and North End Avenue?

Were you outside?

scott, potatoes did cross my mind!

David Marc Fischer said...

You're cool, too, Scott. But it is outside, Myra.

A tree trunk in Central Park?

David Marc Fischer said...

You're cooler too, Debbie!

Zen skate park under the overpass near the East River?

David Marc Fischer said...

Brrr, Scott. But riddle me this: What is the zen of one skate parking?

Scott said...

North of 42nd?

David Marc Fischer said...

Profound answer, Scott!

Yes.

Were you above 110th St?

Anonymous said...

And when I say above I mean North of, not suspended over.

David Marc Fischer said...

Thanks for the clarification, Gary!

I was not north of 110th Street.

Are you on a moving object like the central park carousel?

Anonymous said...

Just to be sure this wasn't a mistake, the third clue is the same as the first clue, correct?

David Marc Fischer said...

No, Gary, I wasn't on a moving object. But you are correct as to the photo: it's the same!

Anonymous said...

were you at a playground?

repeating the first clue doesn't help too much!

David Marc Fischer said...

Nope, not a playground, Myra.

And I do consider it a full-fledged clue.

Anonymous said...

That's only because you know what it is, Davey-boy.

David Marc Fischer said...

I'm confident this will be figured out. And then we'll see if it was a clue worth posting.

And perhaps somebody finds such twists intriguing, if not utterly enigmatic.

David Marc Fischer said...

Oh, I forgot to add "Debbie-Webbie." Sorry.

Were you on the upper west side eating a graffiti sandwich, I ask intrigued and enigmatically.

Scott said...

Lost in a maze?

David Marc Fischer said...

Those are amazing guesses, Scott and Debbie...but no!

Anonymous said...

Were you east of Fifth Avenue?

David Marc Fischer said...

East? Yes!!

Anonymous said...

Is this some sort of ball, or ball-shaped structure?

David Marc Fischer said...

I'm afraid not, Debbie.

Anonymous said...

Were you north of 72nd St?

Anonymous said...

Is a mirror or reflection involved?

David Marc Fischer said...

I was not north of 72nd Street, and no mirror/reflection was involved, though I like that kind of thinking!

Anonymous said...

Are you at a construction site?

David Marc Fischer said...

I'm afraid not, Gary.

Anonymous said...

OK, I need to establish if you were on the island of Manhattan. Note the distinction of saying island not borough.

David Marc Fischer said...

Consider it established, Gary!

Anonymous said...

is the object(s) you're photographing moving?

David Marc Fischer said...

It is still not in motion.

Anonymous said...

well, before I asked if you were moving and now I asked if the object was moving. Subtle difference.

You were looking at a piece of the Berlin Wall at 520 Madison Ave. But I still don't get your double clues.

Anonymous said...

Was one side of the wall facing the East graffiti-free (clues 1 and 3) while the side facing the West graffiti-full (clues 2 and 4)?

David Marc Fischer said...

Wunderbar, Gary! (I hope you didn't lose too much sleep over this one.)

It's a section (or, perhaps, several sections) of the Berlin Wall in a small open area accessible from 53rd Street between Fifth and Madison. That is, apparently, part of the 520 Madison Avenue complex.

I have other pictures that I was planning to post, but I wound up thinking that it would be more interesting to alternate a shot of the mostly blank East side (which faces West) with a shot of the grafitti-covered West side, at least until it was established that I was presenting opposite sides of a wall. It turned out that no other shots were needed here.

Whew! Glad that's solved. Thank you Gary!
