SECRET ORDER

See if you can see Bob Clyman's play Secret Order before its scheduled closing at 59E59 on December 9, 2007. The drama, which revolves around the possibility that a scientist has found a way to cure cancer, takes place mostly within a major research laboratory. There's a struggle to find a key to the cure, but at the same time there's also a conflict over how investors and the world at large should perceive the search. And, on top of that, there are conflicts over truth-telling, career advancement, and personal alliances. Clyman does a very good job spinning a web of competing narratives, and the very good cast brings a lot of energy to the drama. Outstanding is Kenneth Tigar, a California-based actor who chews up the meaty role of a veteran scientist. Playing alongside Tigar are Jessi Campbell, Dan Colman, and Larry Pine.

This was a good one.

What's really weird is that after we ordered the tickets I found out that my sister is on the board of the Merrimack Repertory Theatre, which produced it! Her name was even in the program.
