WHERE WAS I? As usual, it's somewhere in New York City. Anyone can play; just leave your guesses in the comments using a distinct moniker so we can tell you apart from the other players. Enjoy!

Were you looking at a mural on the side of a building?
Yes I was, Deborah!
Was the building a library?
Good guess, Deborah...but no.
Is the building a school?
Sorry, Ellen, it's not a school.
Were you in one of those East Village Community gardens, again?
Not this time, Debbie!
East Village?
Nah, not the East Village either, Dave.
Brooklyn?
Not Brooklyn, Deborah.
Is it a WPA mural?
No, Ellen--the artist's too young for that!
Were you in Manhattan?
Yes, Ellen, I was in Manhattan.
Were you downtown - below 14th st?
No, I wasn't below 14th Street. Which should end all those ugly East Village rumors.
Were you below Times Square?
No, Ellen, I wasn't below Times Square.
Were you below 86t Street David?
Yes. I was below 86th Street, Ellen.
Were you in Hell's Kitchen by any chance???
Yes, Ellen, you're warm!
Am I the only one playing??? I thought for sure someone would swoop in by now!
So Ellen, are you thinking you'll get an "assist"? Why not go for the score?
Is the artist still living?
Deborah, the artist is no more.
Is the mural in a park?
I'd say "yes," Ellen--for most intents and purposes.
Matthews-Palmer playground between 45-46th street between 9th & 10th aves.
You found me, Ellen! Congratulations!!
A bonus point goes to the first person to name the artwork and artist.
The mural is "Against Domestic Colonialism" by Arnold Belkin
Well done, Ellen!!!
The 1972 mural, visible from May Mathews Playground, is by muralist Arnold Belkin, "The Canadian Son of Mexican Muralism."
In poor condition, it is on at least one list of highly endangered murals.
That's very cool. It looked like Diego Rivera, but then I thought it wasn't because the clothes were too modern. Now I see why it looked like Diego Rivera.
I'm glad you like it! It's like Diego Rivera meets bell-bottom jeans or something.
