WHERE WAS I? As usual, it's somewhere in New York City. Anyone can play; leave your guesses in the comments using a distinct moniker so we can tell you apart from everyone else. Enjoy!

Were you at the aquarium?
No, Deborah, but I think that's a very interesting guess!
Thanks. It's dark, like the aquarium, and he kind of looks like Poseidon.
Were you outside?
No, I wasn't outside, Deborah.
Were you in a cave?
LOL, Debbie. For once I wasn't in a cave.
Manhattan?
Yes, Debbie, I was in Manhattan.
Were you at a club?
Were you in a bar?
David and Deborah, you're about equally warm and equally cool.
Well, that was really helpful.
Were you out drinking?
Who do you think you are, David--my mother??
I wasn't out drinking.
And, now that I think of it, I think club is warmer than bar.
Were you someplace that a band called The Trolls perhaps performed?
I don't know, but it's certainly possible, David.
Essex Street Alehouse at 179 Essex Street? According to TimeOut it's a "hobbit hole for beer geeks."
No, Debbie, it's not the Essex Street Aleshouse nor any other hobbit hole for beer geeks.
were you at a church? was it downtown (below 14th st)?
I wasn't at a church, Myra, but I was downtown.
Is it a cafe or bakery?
Neither, Deborah--and congrats on your anti-caption(s)!
Were you at a theater?
You're about as warm as David, Debbie.
Were you at ABC No Rio?? Lower East side?
That's a good guess, Ellen. But even though I've been to ABC No Rio (shivering through a concert on a heatless winter's night), I wasn't there on this occasion.
Lower East Side? Not exactly.
Note to the players: Try to pose one question at a time.
The Back Fence?
Deborah, between you and Ellen, I think you're on to something!
were you at a commercial establishment? you don't like it when we ask more than one question at a time?? :)
I think it's fair to call it a commercial establishment--feel free to define what you mean, if you'd like.
The thing about asking two questions at once is that sometimes it puts me in a predicament. Like if the first question is a "bingo" but the second question would cancel it out. I want to avoid being in that situation.
p.s.122?
Warm, Ellen, but too close to Stuyvesant Oval.
Is it a venue geared towards kids?
Not especially, Ellen. Good question, though!
Is it a not-for-profit?
Yes, Ellen, it is a non-profit. Do does that make it non-commercial?
Hmmm...well a non-profit must benefit the community, it usually exists for charitable or educational purposes; while a commercial enterprise is in the business of making a profit. So in this instance I would not be looking at clubs or bars, but perhaps performance spaces...
Well, I just hope my answers have been okay!
The pressure can be hard to bear, you know.
I was hoping for a 3rd dark & grainy photo.
Were you at Housingworks?
Be careful what you hope for--I put up another photo!
Thanks for guessing, My. Much appreciated, though now you're too close to The Drawing Center.
(This is, I think, the first WWI to last over a week. I was on the verge of ending this particular challenge...but let's see if I can be found fast!)
Ahh! Well now it's totally obvious with that giveaway third photo!
La Mama?
Were you at a "cultural center"?
I thought Debbie was being a mite sarcastic when she said the third photo was a giveaway that everything obvious...but then she went ahead and finally found me with the correct guess: La Mama!
And it's about time--congrats!!
Now if only she would supply us with more of her great photos....
Oh--and it's a doorway in the stairwell of La Mama on E. 4th Street. I've tried to get some context for this from La Mama, but so far I've got nada from La Mama.
And thanks, everyone, for playing--much appreciated, as always!
I was being more than "a mite sarcastic." I was being downright obnoxious! Totally guessed (well, with the help of everyone else's guesses.)
