Banned Books Week 2008

At the outset of Banned Books Week 2008, Blog About Town notes that John McCain's vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, when mayor of Wasilla, aggressively asked a town librarian about whether she would ban books.

The librarian, who defended the library's choice of books as conforming to widely accepted standards, recalls her experience with Palin as "very rough." To their credit, many citizens of Wasilla effectively supported the librarian and helped to get her reinstated after Palin fired her.
