Still Possible to See Delightful Dance
I just got back from a Paul Taylor Dance program at City Center (part of a benefit for the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University) that included the immensely winning signature piece Esplanade, which you might still be able to see in its remaining performance this season, on Saturday afternoon.
I don't want to spoil any surprises by detailing Taylor's brilliant variegated choreography, so I'll merely note that
Alastair MacCauley wrote in The New York Times of Esplanade's "spontaneous joy" and that the movements complement the beautiful Bach music in a way that might reassure you that spring is indeed on the way. It's a good feeling.
The dancers were a pleasure to behold, with Bronxian and SUNY Purchase alum Michelle Fleet's performance standing out in my memory.
If you must see the choreography now, you can take a look at this.
