WRONG, RUDY! Rudy Giuliani appeared this evening on Fox5 News, saying that Central Park has never been used for demonstrations. Rudy, a former New York mayor, was totally wrong.

Central Park's own website says that the park has been used for "summer concerts and New Year's Eve celebrations, peace rallies, and protest marches." The website associates those events with damage to the park, but the fact remains that there is plenty of precedent for demonstrations there.

I personally remember wonderful large-scale demonstrations for Earth Day and disarmament. In addition, Central Park has also been the staging area for numerous AIDS Walks. Furthermore, summer concerts and New Year's Eve celebrations continue to occur there.

Rudy should know better. And at this point, we should know better than to take what he says at face value.
