CARTOON CAPTION CONTEST CONTINUES! Despite the death of William Rehnquist and the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, The New Yorker presses forward with its cartoon caption contest.

For Contest #14 (wolf-like man in a suit walking beside another man), the winner is, "Oh, sure, they find one secretary in a pool of her own blood and everybody wants to blame the werewolf.” Congrats to Sarah Bell of Marblehead, Massachusetts!

For Contest #16 (clergyman talking to a devil as they're greeted by amiable churchgoers), the three nominees have been chosen. My favorite comes from Roger Dodge of Los Osos, California: “O.K., they're yours, but I still don't know where you got that fourth ace.”

My own submission was something along the lines of "You see? You just can't shock people anymore."

What was your caption?
