NYC LOVES NOLA. Henry Miller loved New Orleans — and not because he was into muffuletta sandwiches. I was reminded of this upon recent visits to bestofneworlearns.com and the very impressive Cosmodemonic Telegraph Company: A Henry Miller Blog.

"Of course the New Orleans people are extremely hospitable," Miller wrote in his American travelogue The Air-Conditioned Nightmare. "The meals I had there at private homes are memorable. It is the most congenial city in America that I know of and it is due in large part, I believe, to the fact that here at last on this bleak continent the sensual pleasures assume the importance which they deserve."

A fundraiser that Miller would surely have appreciated will be held on Sunday from 5 p.m. through Midnight at three venues — Acme Bar & Grill, Ace of Clubs, and The Culture Project. NYC LOVES NOLA serves up Cajun food along with what the organizers call "a marathon seven hour performance by virtually ALL of downtown's hottest performers!"

The hot performers really are hot — many even have their own websites! They include Penny Arcade, The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, burlesque revivalist Jo Boobs, Charles Busch, and The World Famous *BOB*.

The money (minimum donation $25) will go to the American Red Cross. If you're looking for alternatives to that mammoth organization, you might want to consider causes supported by sex educator and animal lover Tristan Taormino: Dare to Care (National Food Bank Program), the National Youth Advocacy Coalition (Providing Shelter for Displaced LGBT Youth), and, for pet relief, Hearts United for Animals and The Humane Society of the United States.
