THE PUBLIC SINGS. A star-studded tribute to Public Theater musicals (i.e. Hair, A Chorus Line, Runaways, and Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk) is scheduled for Monday, January 30, 2006 at the City Center. Here's the list of expected performers:
Zach Braff
Betty Buckley
Lea DeLaria
Savion Glover
Eartha Kitt (!)
Donna McKechnie
Idina Menzel
Donna Murphy
Cynthia Nixon
Rosie Perez
Natalie Portman
Tonya Pinkins
Billy Porter
Phylicia Rashad
Meryl Streep
Elaine Stritch
Mary Testa
Lillias White
Of course, the big question is "Will anyone perform anything from The Knife?" I wish I knew!

If you're interested in this event but on a budget, snap up your tickets asap. The $20, $30, and $50 seats are apparently sold out already. Remaining tickets start at $75 and go all the way up to $350; then they go from $500 to $750 (including a pre-concert cocktail party and a listing in the program) and then on to another realm: $1000 to $5000 (including a bunch of benefits that don't seem to include a personal purr from Ms. Kitt).

Details are here.
