CARTOON CAPTION/ANTI-CAPTION CONTESTS CONTINUE! Oscar, Oscar, Oscar! Last night's award ceremony slowed down Marianne Petit's latest installment of 716, and it also interfered with Dan Radosh's Anti-Caption Contest results. Yet the contests plod ahead, as is their wont.

In The New Yorker's Caption Contest #37 (empty suit at a hearing), the winner is the outstanding
"Are you now, or have you ever been?"
This gives Rhode Island its first winner, Stuart Spitalnic of Saunderstown. Way to go, Stuart!

The three nominees for Caption Contest #39 (naked guy drinking on airplane) are in, but once again I'm out in the cold. Somehow
"Allow me to introduce myself: I am the Invisible Man!"
was good enough for Ben Stiller last night but not good enough for The New Yorker today.

Caption Contest #41 is here; Anti-Caption Contest #41 is here.
