NELLIE NOTES. A friend alerted me to the news that Nellie McKay will be playing Joe's Pub this Sunday night at 11:30 pm; I've since learned that Nellie will have late night gigs at Joe's Pub on Sundays through June 18, at the very least. Call 212-539-8778 to purchase tickets.

At the Joe's Pub website you can read that Pretty Little Head will be on sale soon, see what might be a new Nellie headshot, and also hear her sing Mein Auto Zooms in German. Anyone care to translate the lyrics?

Elsewhere in the Nellieverse: She's been getting good notices for her performance in Threepenny Opera (see the April 21, 2006 entry here), she reviewed Karen Schoemer's book Great Pretenders: My Strange Love Affair With '50s Pop Music for The New York Times, and she was also involved in an interesting three-way interview with Eartha Kitt(!) and Robert L. Doerschuk for Harp.

Nellie News continues to be a good source of information.

EXTRA For more on Karen Schoemer and her book Great Pretenders, listen to Irwin Chusid's program from March 29, 2006. The interview-with-music runs about an hour, after which there's about an hour of calypso...and it relates to the recent Stephin Merritt "controversy" too!
