It all depends on what the meaning of "right" is, right? Am I physically moving in the right direction or is my guess of an aircraft in the correct vein? Since direction is less specific than "aircraft" I'll guess, are you on the far west side of Manhattan?
Following Debbie's lead, it does look very gas tank like. Is it? Oh, i guess that really isn't a where question. Are you on a transportation vessel of some sort? (Ship, plane, helicopter, hummer, etc).
I echo echo echo Debbie's comment in that it is a very cool photograph. I feel like I'm in a house of mirrors when I look at it and your picture nicely exemplifies my own fragmented mind trying to wrap itself around these photographs to figure out "where you were". Are you above 42nd St.?
Nice, Gary--you overcame the block! I confess that the standstill was starting to gall me. But as far as I'm concerned you could get a little closer to Orly!
Oui, Gary! I was outside the Air France offices at 120 West 56th Street! On the sidewalk in front of the building are three flagpoles styled like nose cones of the Concorde. The keyhole is in one of those flagpoles. I believe that inside the little door is some method for raising and lowering the flags.
I had wanted to take a picture of the Air France window, which is decorated with simple line drawings representative of tourist attractions around the world. But I just couldn't get a good perspective on them--especially a perspective without reflections that (in my mind, at least) would totally give away the location. Plus I was worried that the people inside would freak out. So instead I came up with that sidewalk view looking up at the building and to the right, avoiding the Air France sign but picking up on those interesting angles and reflections.
And the third photo is of two of the flagpoles. I'm told there is a matching set at the Air France office in France.
Yippee. I can't believe I guessed the Concorde as a first guess only to have it come full circle (sort of) on me. I thought the first picture looked like it had the same proportions as airplane windows so that--along with your response to David's humorous comment about Space Station--made me think of the Concorde.

You went to get gas at the Mobil station... or maybe Sunoco... or maybe not.
Fantastic--you're right about "maybe not"!
From the looks of it you are in the International Space Station on a "mission". Oooh, that was the other picture. Nevermind.
Okay, but you might be closer than you realize!
you are at the concord parked at the intrepid.
I'm not...but you're certainly moving in the right direction.

Nope!

No--sorry!
Were you at the 34th St. heliport?
Ooooh! Nice new photo! Too bad it doesn't really help, but it's very cool AND confusing!
What--you mean the one on the far west side of Manhattan? Nope. (See above.)
No, I meant the one on the far EAST side of Manhattan, smarty-pants!
Hmm. How many heliports are there in this town, anyway?
Okay: Between the Intrepid and the East 34th Street Heliport, there's good reason to believe that things are looking up.
And thanks for the compliment re the photo. Just imagine what I could do if I took pictures with a camera instead of a phone!
Also: Debbie, how do you pronounce "Ooooh!"? Jen Chung writes the same thing, but she won't tell me!
are you near the bloomberg building, on i think it's 58th between 3rd and lex?
Well I can't speak for Jen and I'm not sure that I wrote it correctly but the sound I was going for is ooooo as in uuuuu or the double o's in noodle.
Getting warmer, Scott!
Debbie, I think that's what Jen would say, too. But why the "h"?

The A&D (without an "H") building on east 58th Street between Lex and 3rd? I believe B&B Italia is the storefront on the bottom left.
Thanks, Gary! The location is above the Deuce (a.k.a. 42nd Street).
Debbie, I blush to tell you this...but you and Scott are about equally warm at this time.
Except that Scott's building is on the north side of 58th and mine's on the south. Who's warmer NOW???
You might be, dear. Can I get you some aspirin?
Are you at the Galleria apartments 119 E. 57ty St. between Park and Lex?
Getting a little warmer.
I recognize the building now (or more honestly the flagpoles) but now where have I seen those cones?
Are you at the Metropolitan Tower on West 57th?
No, but you're getting much warmer!
is it the time warner center?
Time Warner is not warmer, I'm afraid. Colder, actually.
the sony building?
Warmer than Time Warner, but cooler than Metropolitan Tower.
The HarperCollins building? 10 East 53rd St.
Cool too. Frankly, Metropolitan Tower is quite warm indeed.
Trump Tower on 5th Ave
Are you at the Leveraged Marketing Corp building?
Trump Tower isn't as warm as Metropolitan Tower, though there's an interesting commonality with the mystery location....

D'oh, Air France!

Kudos to Gary for zeroing in on the location!
