NATIONAL SPELLING BEE 2006: ROUNDS 6 and 7. Rockville Center is reeling today: Prateek Kohli is out of the competition, felled by sulcate in Round 6!
Yet Asbury Park's Katharine Close survived both Round 6 and Round 7, triumphing over terrene and then conquering cucullate. She's looking strong in the field of remaining competitors, as both whiz kid Bonny Jain and Texan Samir Patel faltered in Round 7. Jain's downfall was empyreumatic; Patel's was eremacausis. Go figure!
But hey--could Syracuse speller Michael Christie (konditorei, aspersion, palatalize, strychnine, auxesis, wapiti) turn out to be a spoiler?
Details about the Final Thirteen should be online soon.
