MY LIFE IN THE BUSH OF GHOSTS. First, a CBGB note. A couple of days ago, I saw NY1's advance coverage of the closing of CBGB. It was a little weird, as it featured footage of this week's Loser's Lounge performance at the club, with David Terhune smiling broadly. Always nice to see...but not exactly emblematic of CBGB.
In my little write-up of the Loser's Lounge tribute to Talking Heads at Joe's Pub, I only included some of the highlights. I neglected to mention J. Keen's fronting of "American is Waiting," a rare live performance of a track from the David Byrne-Brian Eno collaboration My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. It was great to hear, even though the mixing that evening gave short shrift to lead vocals.
I bought the album My Life in the Bush of Ghosts soon after it came out in 1981, but it took a while for its then avant-garde mix of samples to grow on me. Now there's a remixed 25th anniversary CD of the recording...and a web page where you can get creative with the samples and hear what others have done with them. Give it a listen!
Here's the "official" remix video of the track "Help Me Somebody".

After I saw myself on the NY1 CBs story, my first thought "Cool!" But then I had the same thought you did. The story wasn't about the Loser's Lounge, it was about CBs closing. What was my face doing up there? Certainly a shot of the Ramones or Television would have been more appropriate. Ah well, it made my mother happy.
Thanks for writing!
I noticed that NY1 did a follow-up featuring Patti Smith.
