WEEKEND PLUS. So maybe the Independent and Small Press Book Fair isn't enough for you.
James Barron's Piano: the Making of a Steinway Concert Grand
Saturday, December 2, at 1 pm
The Green-Wood Cemetery
Perhaps the only thing better than getting schooled in the art of Steinway-making is following the lesson with a stroll to the Steinway family mausoleum. Now you can find out for yourself! Admission is free...but call 718-768-7300 to find out if there's still space for you at the cemetery.

Beyond Conviction
Sunday, December 3, at 8 pm
MSNBC
In Pennsylvania there's a program that enables crime victims to meet with "their" offenders. With Beyond Conviction, filmmaker Rachel Libert enables viewers to see how such meetings can play out. As a friend of the documentary's editor, Melissa Hacker, I saw a working copy of the film months ago--and some of the footage blew my mind. I don't know how this shorter TV version will be, but I recommend checking it out, bracing yourself for possible shocks.

Ceiling Paint Public Art
through December 3
Lever House
If you happen to be near Lever House (Park Avenue at 54th) this weekend, check out the public art painting on the ceiling at street level. Also: The Seagram Building (with outdoor Calder sculpture) is just across Park, to the southeast.

Class Acts
Monday, December 4 at 7 pm
The New School Tishman Auditorium
Comedian-mensch Scott Blakeman (with whom I've bantered on more than one occasion) has taught standup at The New School for 20 years--and Jon Stewart and Caroline Rhea are among the legions of laugh-inducers who might well consider him their Mr. Chips of Chortles. Cough up a mere $10 and you can celebrate the anniversary with Blakeman, Rhea, and other funny people. For more info, contact boxoffice@newschool.edu or 212.229.5488.
