CATCH IT WHILE YOU CAN: FRED MCDARRAH PHOTOS IN CHELSEA! Today I finally followed a tip from gallery expert Eric and visited the Fred McDarrah show at the Steven Kasher Gallery.
This excellent exhibition, which ends on Saturday, features outstanding examples of the work of McDarrah, a key photographer for The Village Voice. It includes iconic shots of Jack Kerouac and Andy Warhol plus pix of many other cultural figures including Bob Dylan, Roy Lichtenstein, Kate Millett, Charlotte Moorman, Alice Neel (in one case with this Warhol portrait), Nam June Paik, Carolee Schneemann, and Woody Allen (with Diane Keaton...and Betty Ford!?).
A Dylan photo by McDarrah tops this related article. Other McDarrah photos accompany the same article here.
If you go, remember that this Henry Darger exhibit is nearby!
ADDENDUM Silly me. I neglected to mention that you can view dozens of images from (or at least related to) the show (entitled Fred W. McDarrah: Artists and Writers of the 60s and 70s) here. Cool!
