WOTY 2006: THE NOMINATIONS CONTINUE! Here are more nominations for the American Dialect Society's Word of the Year 2006. Once again, you can find the definitions via the ADS website.

So far Pluto/dwarf planet/planet/etc. is looking like a real contender! (The American Name Society will pick its Name of the Year, too--and I figure Pluto is likely the name to beat.) Also looking strong: Islamo-. I question sudden Jihad syndrome not only because it makes me uncomfortable but because it seems to have been used mainly by one person...with much of its subsequent "usage" merely citing that one person's usage. At least that appeared to be the situation months ago.
