GUITARCHIKS: INFLATABLE BOY CLAMS
I don't think I've been this psyched about a Guitarchiks entry since Tru Fax & the Insaniacs, another group I mainly heard on Charlottesville's WTJU, which just celebrated its 50th Anniversary early this month. The programming that weekend included turns from Aaron "Dean the Nightmare" Margosis and one of my radio crushes, Elizabeth (Libby) "That Girl" Hull. I think both of them played TF&I's "Washingtron" as well as "I'm Sorry" by Inflatable Boy Clams, which has got to be one of the best no wave (I *think* it's no wave) cuts one could ever hear at college. I don't think there are any guitars in "I'm Sorry"...but you can hear 'em in "Skeletons" and "Marin" and "Boystown."
So who were the Inflatable Boy Clams? Carol Detweiler (bass, drums, organ, vocals), JoJo Planteen (now known as Monique Marquisa DeMagdalena) (bass, vocals), Judy Gittelsohn (organ, slide guitar, bass, vocals), and Genvieve Boutet de Monvel (sax). They've got a tribute page.
Many thanks to Charlie at WFMU for spinning "I'm Sorry" two Mondays ago.
You wouldn't notice this if I didn't mention it here, but I keep on writing Claims instead of Clams.
Here's a video with a bit of "Skeletons" in it along with music from The Advantage.

Har, some great 'TJU memories. Thought I spotted Aaron Margosis at the Slickee Boys reunion show when I was back in D.C. this last time, but I was with friends, and Harris could never stand the guy.
Now Libby, I would've taken the time to catch up with, growl.
Thanks to the wide wild world of file sharing, I was able to track down another femme-gem of the era, "How to Keep Your Husband Happy" by The Cosmopolitans, which I'll post to Box.
By the way, re guitarchix in general, I found a set by Marnie Stern in Austin to be nearly insufferable. Be forewarned!

Thanks for noticing (and commenting), Ben! And thanks for reminding me about those Cosmopolitans.
Stay tuned, folks....
