SHRED FEST 2008

There was a small but celebratory crowd for the joyous shredding festival when it kicked off this morning. In fact, the "crowd" was so small that I think I came close to getting one of the shredders that were being given away. Close...but no cigar.

So. There was this big Brinks Document Destruction truck and some young ladies (right) to assist.

The paper (and plastic bags, rubber bands, and metal binder straps) went into blue receptacles that were then conveyed into the truck.

You could then watch the digestion process on a computer monitor. Of course, there's plenty of room for fraud and deception at that stage—who's to say that the monitor isn't showing something else? I find this especially amusing because con artist extraordinaire Frank Abagnale is associated with the festivities, which ends at 4 pm today. I hope it happens again soon, with more advacne notice—I only wish the truck had been equipped with knife sharpeners, as The Other Dave and I have discussed.
