Three years ago, I wrote and acted in a TV pilot for the Showtime network.

This pilot, WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?, which is based on my memoir of the same title, is now being broadcast as a thirty-minute short film by Showtime this Tuesday, December 18th, at 11:30 pm, and will also be shown on a few other nights.

THERE STILL IS SEX IN NEW YORK PRESS

The new New York Press dropped Dr. Dot and dumped its sex ads (love 'em or hate 'em, they inspired some great work by Jonathan Ames), yet sex can still be found throbbing inside the current issue, where Stephanie Sellars writes about lesbian kink at Burning Man and possibly perverted publicist Kelly Kreth offers a cover story about dating her notorious-for-Gawker client Eric Schaeffer.

Here's Kreth talking up an expensive spa routine as well as a blink-or-you'll-miss-it dating gimmick.

"BABY, YOU KNOCK ME OUT"

Tonight Jonathan Ames returns to the ring for his first public boxing match of this century. I don't think I've been this excited about boxing since Muhammad Ali was champ. (Incidentally, Ali's daughter Laila just got hitched.)

With boxing on my mind, I offer this number from the widescreen musical It's Always Fair Weather, which makes an outstanding double bill paired with On the Town. The clip features Cyd Charisse (with the voice of Carol Richards).

JONATHAN AMES: MASTER OF DISASTER?

I could hardly believe my eyes when I read an email from Jonathan "The Herring Wonder" Ames (height 5'10-1/2, weight 156, age 43) touting his (free) upcoming bout against Craig "The Crippler" Davidson (height 6'1", weight 162, age 31) at Gleason's Gym (77 Front Street in Brooklyn) at 8 pm on Tuesday, July 24, 2007.

Why was I surprised? Well, Jonathan himself calls his last match—way back in 1999—"disastrous." It was only about a week ago that a few cronies and I were sitting around talking about it with disbelief, even though none of us had been there. (You can read more about Jonathan's boxing career here.)

Getting back to the future: Also present (but not boxing) at the forthcoming event will be hula-hoop artist Miss Saturn and marrieds Valmonte Sprout and—NSFW—Patrick "The Mangina" Bucklew. Jonathan encourages attendees to show up in costumes. There will be an after-party at nearby Rebar (147 Front Street).
