THERE STILL IS SEX IN NEW YORK PRESS

The new New York Press dropped Dr. Dot and dumped its sex ads (love 'em or hate 'em, they inspired some great work by Jonathan Ames), yet sex can still be found throbbing inside the current issue, where Stephanie Sellars writes about lesbian kink at Burning Man and possibly perverted publicist Kelly Kreth offers a cover story about dating her notorious-for-Gawker client Eric Schaeffer.

Here's Kreth talking up an expensive spa routine as well as a blink-or-you'll-miss-it dating gimmick.

VOICE BACK PAGES. In the back pages of this week's Village Voice you can find Dan Savage writing about sexually estranged straight couples. It's interesting to note how perceptions of said couples can change according to whatever stereotypes the media happen to be promoting at any given time.

And the new column--"Married, Not Dead"? Well, there's no "Married, Not Dead." It is dead, a short-lived casualty in the ongoing (and lately backpedaling) tumult at the Voice, to which Gawker has devoted considerable coverage.

MORE ON THE LARRY SEILER STORY. Following up on last week's item about the Village Voice article "Something in the Way He Moves," I note that criticism of the piece showed up in the paper's letters column, which has reached a level of ongoing general negativity (not just in response to this one story) that I haven't seen since the days when Nat Hentoff sided with anti-choice activists.

Anyway, you can check out the letters and also consider this article about sex and a man with cerebral palsy.

MEET LARRY SEILER. I think the Mara Altman article "Something in the Way He Moves" is worth reading. (On the same web page is a substantial audio interview with Laura Conaway that is also worth hearing.) It's a profile of Larry Seiler, a teacher and the creator and host of the BronxNet show Special People Special Issues. He's got cerebral palsy and a strong interest in sex.

But here's a contrary, anti-article, view from Cory Silverberg. I think it's also worth reading. I also note that, in the audio file, Seiler describes Mara Altman as a close friend--but I don't believe there is any such disclosure in the article itself.
