WHERE WAS I? As usual, it's in one of the five boroughs. Anyone can play, but make sure you use a distinctive moniker when you leave guesses in the comments section.

You're lukewarm, Debbie!

Warmer, Debbie.

A former church?

Cooler, David.

An active church? C'mon babe...give us something to work with here, please.

David Marc Fischer said...

Sorry: It's an active church that's not on Staten Island.

Is it Judson Memorial Church on Washington Square?

David Marc Fischer said...

Sorry, bellj--too close to Staten Island.

Queens?

David Marc Fischer said...

Oh yes, Dolph--it's in Queens. And by "Queens" I do not mean "Chelsea." I mean "Queens."

If this is it, it is kind of a strange angle in your pics ... The Dutch Reform Church of Newtown?

Bowne Street (Reformed) Church, Flushing, NY? With Tiffany windows? Possibly made in Corona, Queens (the windows, anyway.)

I just saw a photo so I'll retract my guess before getting the "cool, Debbie" from DMF.

Is it the Steinway Reformed Church at the corner of Ditmars Boulevard and 41st Street in Astoria?

David Marc Fischer said...

You got it, Myra--congrats!

More to come later. In the meantime, kudos to everyone for dispensing with this one so quickly! I'm very impressed.

I went to the Astoria/Steinway Village church, founded in 1891, for a pleasant chamber music program offered by Goliard Concerts. (Goliard resumes its schedule at the Steinway Reformed Church in October.) The first photo is the exterior of a stairwell that leads up to the main house of worship. The second photo shows windows opened to provide some relief from the evening heat.
